Different Diamond Shapes
When it comes to the shape of a diamond, there are three faceting styles that all diamonds shapes are based on. These styles are:
- the round brilliant
- the step cut
- the princess cut
Then, within each of these facets comes another subset of shapes. Round edged diamond shapes are based on the round brilliant. Some popular examples are the pear, oval, cushion and marquise. Its facets are arranged in a pattern radiating outward to the girdle outline. This results in a strong burst of brilliance.

Then there are straight edged shapes, which are based on the step cut. The emerald cut is a popular form of this shape. With a step cut, their facets are arranged in a step-like manner parallel to the girdle outline. The diamonds display an icy clear brilliance with this shape.
The princess cut is a square variation of the brilliant cut.
We understand that selecting the custom diamond assortment is a personal choice. Each diamond cut has its own unique set of characteristics that you may be drawn to. The shape you ultimately select is a reflection of your own personality and sense of style. So, it is a pretty important decision, which is why we will work with you every step of the way!
